Design Tip - Alternative to Place Mats on Your Dining Table

Everybody knows that swapping your table linens for something new is an inexpensive way to refresh your table. Tablecloths, place mats, runners... all of these, when mixed with other design elements, can help change up your space.

And there are so many ways you can play with these things! Here are a few options for getting several different looks out of your linens:

• Layer place mats or a runner over a table cloth
• Mix prints and textures
• Use items in an unexpected way

For example, place mats can also be used on smaller tabletops or dressers. 

Another option is to try laying table runners across the width of your table, rather than down the middle. These runners can serve as place mats on either side. Here's what it might look like:
